FESTIVAL DE LA IMAGEN //2022//

COLOMBIA

Since 1997, the Department of Visual Design in Manizales, Colombia, has held the International Image Festival, a meeting of digital culture that in its 18 editions has managed to establish an international network of institutions, researchers and creators who that each year exchange experiences and knowledge, which is why it has established itself as an event of international relevance and academic reference in design, art, science and technology.

The Festival addresses avant-garde themes that integrate various disciplines, shared knowledge and social and environmental problems that invite critical reflection of the media and communications in the contemporary world. In its latest versions, the Festival has been linked to internationally relevant events.

The subject of this year’s festival, in collaboration with Chile,17-21 October 2022, was SURTROPIA. Xibalba-Roots exhibited in the Artist Category, screening both films on a continuous loop, projected onto the roots of a ceiba pentandra, in collaboration with Colombian artist Miler Lagos. In addition to the films, the audience was able to experience the interactive biofrequencies of the ceiba, meteorite and live plants, within an atmospheric mist of tobacco, tonka bean and hay.

A mythical embryophyte plant, the original incarnation on land of extraterrestrial origins, contains a fragmented codex containing crystalline technology fundamental to our evolution within its DNA that lies dormant and veiled until human consciousness elevates to a particular frequency. As a collective art piece, participants were invited to choose fragments of human and more-than-human cosmologies to co-create, with AI, a mytho-poetic message to the plant.
